What information do we collect? How do we use it?
When you order CARFAX Vehicle History Reports on carfaxonline.com, you will be asked to enter the User ID and password that were provided to you by CARFAX. This information allows us to process your request and deliver your reports to you. You also have the option to save your User ID and password, by checking the box on the login screen. This information will be securely stored in a cookie. Saving your ID and password eliminates the need to log in each time you return to carfaxonline.com.

For each CARFAX Vehicle History Report you request, you will also enter the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). This is the unique 17-character identification number that is used to search our database for information about the vehicle's history.

We also track user traffic patterns to uncover ways in which we can improve the site and make it easier to use. We do not track what individual users read, but rather how many customers look at each page.

We also, of course, actively collect vehicle information from state and federal authorities and others in order to provide the CARFAX service. We do not seek any personally identifiable information -- such as the name, address or phone number of a vehicle owner -- in conjunction with this collection effort. If any such information is provided in conjunction with the vehicle information, CARFAX does not sell, trade, rent or otherwise transfer that information to anyone.

CARFAX may use dealer-reported information from the CARFAX Hot Listings Inventory Manager as part of a vehicle's permanent history. CARFAX may include this dealer-reported information in the CARFAX database, and present this information on CARFAX Vehicle History Reports offered to consumers and dealers.

How does CARFAX protect customer information?
All information that you provide to CARFAX is fully protected against access by unauthorized parties.

What about Cookies?
"Cookies" are small pieces of information that are stored by your browser on your computer's hard drive. Cookies enable us to provide customized and convenient features to you on your initial and subsequent visits to carfaxonline.com. Our cookies are "temporary" - they expire after 60 days. Plus, our temporary cookies do NOT contain any personally identifying information. Most Web browsers automatically accept cookies. Even if you have set your browser to refuse cookies, you will still be able to access and use the carfaxonline.com site.
